Dada als politische Kunst zwischen den Weltkriegen
Antibürgerlich, anarchistisch und pazifistisch übte Dada mit scharfem Blick und beißender Satire Gesellschaftskritik, hinterfragte geltende Werte sowie politische und soziale Zustände und Dynamiken, vor allem jene, die zur Katastrophe des Ersten Weltkriegs geführt hatten. 1916 noch während des Krieges gegründet, wird das Ende der Bewegung zwar in den frühen 1920er Jahren verortet, Künstler:innen wie George Grosz, Hannah Höch und John Heartfield kämpften jedoch mit Mitteln der Kunst später auch gegen den aufkommenden Nationalsozialismus. Den Nationalsozialisten gilt Dada als „entartet“.
Warum ist diese Ausstellung gerade heute so relevant? Immer radikalere rechte politische und extremistische Tendenzen werden – auch in Deutschland – zunehmend stärker, die politische Weltlage prekärer. Bei einem Rückblick auf das Interbellum des letzten Jahrhunderts wird deutlich, dass auch jetzt die Notwendigkeit besteht, menschenfeindliche und antidemokratische Tendenzen zu benennen und – auch mit Hilfe der Kunst – zu entlarven und ihnen entgegenzuwirken.
Im Begleitprogramm tritt unter anderem am 31. Mai 2026 Rocko Shamoni auf. Der Musiker, Schriftsteller und Schauspieler spricht mit uns anlässlich der Ausstellung über Dada, Nonsense, Absurdität und Humor als Stil- und Kampfmittel in der Kunst.
