the Center for Persecuted Arts invites together with the Promotional Society #Wir_erinnern_Wir_gestalten! a four-day study and remembrance trip to Krakow and Auschwitz. The occasion is the opening of the exhibition “Marian Ruzamski. The art of remembrance” on Thursday, April 9, 2026, in the traditional Palace of Arts (Pałac Sztuki) in the heart of Krakow. On this day, after 100 years of absence, the artist returns to the site of his last solo exhibition.

The trip is aimed at friends of the museum, sponsors, interested parties from culture, science, civil society and education, as well as committed citizens who want to deal with art history, remembrance culture and political education.

Thursday, April 9 to Sunday, April 12, 2026, if applicable Monday, April 13, 2026

Important note: The arrival and departure must be individually organized and financed.

Program (excerpt)

Thursday, April 9

  • 14:30: Meeting at the hotel in Krakow
  • 15:00: Visit to Bunkier Sztuki Art Museum
  • 18:00: Opening of the exhibition “Marian Ruzamski” in the Palace of Arts
  • Followed by a reception and dinner together

Friday, April 10th

  • Guided city tour: Old Town, St. Mary's Church, Wawel
  • Visit to the Kazimierz Jewish Quarter, MOCAK and tour of the memorial under construction in the former Plaszow concentration camp
  • Joint dinner

Saturday, April 11th

  • Visit to the Auschwitz I Memorial, including exhibitions and art collection
  • Visit to the Richter Pavilion at the International Youth Meeting Center and exchange with eyewitnesses (optional)
  • Overnight in Oswięcim (Hampton by Hilton)

Sunday, April 12th

  • Visiting Auschwitz II — Birkenau and Monowitz (Auschwitz III)
  • Drive back to Krakow and final evening together
  • Alternatively, return flight from Katowice is possible

Monday, April 13th

  • Return trip for participants who would like to stay one more night in Krakow.

Services & costs

The cost of the trip is around 700€ per person in a single room, plus arrival and departure

The price includes:

  • Two nights in Krakow (approx. 300€)
  • Two nights in Oświęcim (approx. 200€)
  • Meal package (approx. 200€)

The price also includes:

  • Organization and program management by Center for Persecuted Arts
  • Guided tours of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum
  • Transfers from Krakow to Oświęcim and back. (The Sponsors' Association bears the joint program-related transfer costs locally.)
  • Entrance fees and guided tours in Krakow

A binding registration is required. To secure your participation, a deposit of 200€ is required after confirmation of your registration. Places are limited.

Arrival and departure

Arrivals and departures are individual; early booking is recommended. Recommended flight connections (as of July 2025, round trip approx. 200€):

  • Outbound flight (Thursday, April 9): Lufthansa from Düsseldorf 9:10 — Arrival Krakow 13:25 (transfer to Frankfurt)
  • Return flight (Mon, April 13): Eurowings from Krakow 15:15 — Arrival Düsseldorf 17:00 (direct flight)
  • Alternatively: Return flight Sun, April 12 from Katowice with Wizz Air to Dortmund

Eligibility requirements

Members of the Sponsors' Association #Wir_erinnern_Wir_gestalten! and volunteers from the Center for Persecuted Arts and the Else-Lasker-Schüler-Gesellschaft are given priority when allocating places. However, the trip is expressly open to anyone interested.

After receipt of confirmation of registration, the travel price is due by November 1. Withdrawal is generally possible provided that a substitute participant is found. Otherwise, a cancellation fee of 100% of the deposit will be charged. Arrival and departure are not included in the travel price and are to be organized by the participants on their own responsibility.

The Center for Persecuted Arts assumes no liability for accidents, property or personal injury or loss of objects during arrival and departure and during travel, unless damage was caused intentionally or through gross negligence by employees of the center. Each participant is fully responsible for themselves and their own actions throughout the trip.

Should exceptional events occur — such as natural disasters, traffic disruptions or other cases of force majeure for which the Center is not responsible — the Center for Persecuted Arts is released from the obligation to fulfill the contract for the duration of the effect. In these cases, there is no claim for compensation or reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses.
