The museum Center for Persecuted Arts presents the exhibition from March 3 to April 21, 2024 Evas Weg by Iranian-born artist Ahang Nakhaei.

Under the title Eva's Way Ahang Nakhaei recently exhibited in the NRW state parliament together with the artist Helmut Warnke. Your series of pictures Don Quixote consists of small-format collages and enlarged reproductions on canvas. She is also showing a video projection based on her poems.
Ahang Nakhaei studied illustration in Tehran and left Iran after completing her master's degree in 2012. Since then, she has lived and worked in Germany. Her work is characterized by the oppression she had to endure as a woman and as an artist. Her commitment to women's intellectual and sexual freedom finds a completely new environment in Germany and is combined with aspects of cultural migration and the associated emotional challenges.
Ahang Nakhaei about her work:
“Women who grew up in Oriental culture are looking for freedom as women. Have they found freedom in the West? Of course, a woman can become a chancellor or a harlot. But how many female chancellors do we need?
Many women work in advertising. However, they not only advertise a product, they are themselves used as a product. We meet them everywhere. Whether on television or on billboards on the street. We buy a magazine, sexual innuendo everywhere. Even if a woman eats bratwurst in an advertisement. Men's fantasies are served.
The question is: 'Who controls the world? '
Men and women live in the same world but have different requirements and options. The Don Quixote picture series poses the question of reality or cliché. Terms such as eroticism, sexism or pornography are being questioned. The role of women, the role of men in the Islamic world and in the western world. Where are there similarities, where are there differences? ”
In both Western and Eastern contexts, women are used by the male-dominated world as a means of implementing power, she concludes. “Like Don Quixote, I continue to fight windmill wings.“
As part of Solingen Culture Night on April 13, 2024 The Iranian Santur musician Kioomars Musayyebi will be playing in the exhibition at 9 pm. The Tehran-born musician has been composing, teaching and playing in Germany since 2011. In recent years, he has been invited to several festivals and worked with musicians from Europe, India, Africa and East Asia in various projects and orchestras.
From March 10 to April 21, 2024, there will be public guided tours of the exhibition on Sundays at 1 pm Eva's Way and the permanent exhibition of the Center for Persecuted Arts. The tours start in the museum foyer near the ticket office. The guided tour is already included in the museum entrance fee. No registration is required.
